2 Easy DIY State Ornaments to Gift this Holiday

Crafts | Cricut crafts | Fabric and Sewing | First Home | Holiday | Make it!

I absolutely love adding ornaments to the tree that have special significance. Especially homemade ones! These DIY  state ornaments  are easy to make and make really great gifts. I. keep a few extra on hand for last minute gift giving  and will slip one in along with a few of  my Christmas cards this year.

I have made these state ornaments two different ways using different materials. One is made out of faux leather with a heart cut out of it. The other is felt and fabric with a red felt heart attached to the front.

For the fabric ornament, I used black and white checked fabric that I had leftover from making the tree skirt. I love that they coordinate! There are so many cute Fabrics out there that you can really customize this project or make a few ornaments in different patterns.

What You’ll Need:

To make these ornaments, upload a picture of your chosen state into the Cricut design space.  Use the shape tool to add a circle to the top of your state. This will be the hole for hanging the ornament. Resize the circle as needed and then, use the splice tool to cut the hole out.

If you are making the golf faux leather ornament,  repeat the same process with the heart shape.

If you are making the fabric ornament, there is no need to cut  a heart in  your fabric state. Instead of splicing the heart into the state cut out a separately in red felt.

I’ve linked a video below that wii take you step by step through this process.

You can either place the heart over the state’s capital or, for a more personal touch, over a hometown.

I assembled the fabric ornaments by glueing the fabric to the felt backing using fabric glue (or use the crafters best friend: hot glue). Then, glue the heart in place.

Use ribbon or leather cording to tie a loop through the hole at the top for hanging..

These ornaments came out super sweet and are a great gift to remind loved ones of friends and family back in their hometown.

They. are also a great gift for someone who is spending Christmas away from home this year or for someone celebrating their first Christmas in a new home.
