ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Tasha!

I am a teacher, crafter, avid DIYer, travel enthusiast, and a lover of sequins, patterns, and color. I moved to the city of New Orleans in 2007 and immediately fell in love with how vibrant, creative, and colorful it is.
I’ve always loved making things with my hands but didn’t start getting serious about DIY until I bought my first home. Homeownership is a huge financial undertaking and to be honest, I seriously underestimated how much money actually goes into a first home. Suddenly, decorating, the thing I was most looking forward to, starting to become a huge subject of stress. I had a particular vision for my house and I didn’t want to compromise on style but I was also on a tight budget.

It all came to a head one night when after months of searching for a dining table that matched my style and budget, I threw up my hands in frustration and thought, “I should just make this myself.” The next morning, I invested in a few tools and some wood and got to work. I was so happy with the results and I soon learned that DIY is the best way to get unique, custom furniture and decor that you love without spending a fortune.

Before I knew it, I was sharing my DIYs and crafts with friends and family, then at craft markets, and now at suddenshakeup.com.

I believe that anyone can DIY something they love regardless of their skill level or budget. Suddden Shake Up is here to help you shake up your routine and craft the life you deserve. Whether you need creative inspiration, home decorating ideas, help to tackle a DIY project, or you just have a desire to add more color and creativity into your life: we are here to help.

My Sudden Shake Up

Everyone has their own sudden shake up story whether it’s a change of jobs, moving to a new home, or the birth of your first child. Mine was an unexpected diagnosis.

At the age of 32, I went to my doctor because of a slight but troubling tremor in my right hand. That was the day I was diagnosed with Young-onset Parkinson’s Disease.

I’ve learned a lot since that diagnosis about patience, gratitude, and personal challenge (to name a few things).

I believe that no matter what challenge or struggle you’re facing, nothing should get in your way of living a creative, bold, and adventurous life and that the time to get started doing something you’re passionate about is always right now.
