5 Game Day Accessories You Need to Copy this Fall

DIY style | Make it! | Style

This month marked the return of the NFL season. Regardless of who your team is, or whether you’re cheering for NFL or college football, your game day accessories are key to showing off your team spirit.

I’m sharing my all-time favorite DIY game day earrings. They are definitely a reflection of my favorite teams (Geaux Saints and Tigers!) Of course, you can customize any piece by substituting your own team colors. Whoever you cheer for, your earrings will be on point and make you stand out in the crowd.

What You’ll need:

I will link below to each item I used for the different earrings but I would suggest starting off with a basic earring kit like this one that gives you different color options. and includes jewelry pliers. I’ve used this kit often when jewelry making.

Wire Lettter Earrings

Earlier this week, I posted a DIY tutorial on how to make letter jewelry out of wire. These are made the same way and are so cute for game day! You can shape the wire into your team’s name or into a team chant (think: Who dat or Go Blue!) These would also be really cute with your favorite player’s name.

Leather Fringe Earrings

This is a really simple DIY. Just purchase flat leather cording in your team colors. Cut them to size and use an earring clamp to hold them all together. Then, attach your jump ring and earring hooks.

Team Player Earrings

This DIY will take you back to your childhood days at summer camp. Do you remember Shrinky Dinks? I was recently reminded of how versatile and fun they are!

I used my Cricut Maker to cut out silhouettes of my favorite football players in Shrinky Dink plastic. keep in mind that each piece will shrink to about a third of its original size or smaller. Then I used gel pens (in my opinion, these are the absolute best) and Sharpies to color them in. I baked them in the oven according to package directions which takes a minute or less. To make them look a bit more refined, I coated the tops in UV resin and let them cure in the sun. These could also be cute as a keychain or Christmas ornaments.

The picture below was taken before I added the coat of resin. That step is optional but will give it a more finished look. If you are making the dangle earrings, don’t forget to add a hole at the top about the size of a standard hole punch. The whole will shrink in the oven and then you can attach your earring hardware.

Pom-pom Earrings

All you need is a pom pom maker, some yarn in your team colors, and a few basic jewelry-making items to create these fun pom-pom earrings. I got this pom-pom maker which makes them in four different sizes. You can experiment to see which size is best for you. Personally, I like to go big or go home.

If you’re going to make more than one pair, I highly suggest purchasing the pom-pom maker. I’ve tried all the DIY methods of making pom-poms including cardboard cutouts and forks. None of them seemed to make the pom-poms as even or as full as I would like. The pom-pom maker definitely seems to do the trick!

Tinsel Earrings

Just attach tinsel in your team colors to an earring clip and you have the easiest game day accessories DIY ever! They may also be the most fun to wear! I like to be extra flashy and pair these with my sequin sleeved t-shirt.
