A Colorful Halloween DIY You Need to Try | Day of the Dead
Halloween decorations generally tend to stick to a pretty monotone color scheme of black, gray, and white. Being a lover of bright colors, I prefer a colorful Halloween DIY. Like with these Day of the Dead candlestick and planters.
If you see these small plastic skulls at your store scoop them up! Not only do they make fantastic candlestick and air plant holders but they make a killer wreath too!! (Pun intended)
What You’ll Need:
- Scrap wood
- Spray paint or Craft paint
- Gel pens
- Plastic skulls
- Marbled candles and succulents or air-plants
- A drill with hole drill bit
Paint the skull one solid color using craft paint or spray paint. You can also spray paint your wood bass black or any color of your choosing. Next, you will decorate the skull. The secret of keeping the tiny details from looking sloppy is to use gel pens. I found that the Sakura gel pens are bright enough to stand out against the painted background. They also have a fine tip which makes adding the decorations easier to control then if you were to use paint.
After everything is dry, you can use your drill and hole drill bit to make a small hole in the top of the skull. It should be just big enough to fit your succulent or your candle.
The last step is to drill your skull into the wooden base so that it won’t be too top heavy after you put the candle in.
Make sure you add some matching candles. to go with the holders. I added a black marble finish to plain white tapered candles to give them a festive “spooky” look. You can view the tutorial to see how they were made here.
Now just set them at the table and enjoy your new and colorful Halloween DIY!
You have so many great Halloween creations on your blog. Unfortunately, celebrating Halloween is not a festive day where I’m from. 🙁 I want to be part of this creativity, too! X
We love some Coco! What a cute project.
